What's a good "beginner" tofu recipe?

I'm not a fan of tofu. I'm willing to give it a shot, because it's in so many recipes, but I need a good "new to tofu" recipe. I'm a good cook so any recipe is fine. I'm just looking for something to ease me into tofu =)

i have not tried this exact recipe (and there are more variations in the comments) but it's a pretty beginner-ish one to try.

    Easy Tofu Prep:

    1. Remove from package and drain excess fluid. Blot on a paper towel.
    2. Marinade in a desired sauce (The longer the stronger the flavour).
    3. Cube and fry between medium and high heat in oil until outside is crispy and middle is cooked through.

this gets my vote. If not smoked, make sure you use firm tofu. Silken tofu has more of a slimy consistency and while some people enjoy it in a stir-fry, I certainly don't. However silken tofu is awesome for making icing on cakes etc.

You can buy the kinds that are already baked & marinated.

I made pie this last week:

(First post on pg. 15 where "yally" is quoting a response)

    Oh...so yummy.

Add sugar to taste. I had to stop the blender several times to redistribute the silken tofu. But the final product was a puddingish, rich, chocolate-peanut butter pie.

    Super easy.

I'd say start with scrambled tofu "eggs".

I crumble it with my hands until it approximates the look of scrambled eggs. Heat it up in some oil. Sprinkle some tumeric in and mix it up for coloring. I also like adding a splash of soy sauce and some green onions for flavor.

I serve it with toast and some fried potatoes and vegetables. Mmm mmm good breakfast.

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

I second the eggs idea. Dice up some potatoes and fry them up for a couple minutes. Throw in a full package of Trader Joe's Vegan Soy Chorizo. Stir in the crumbed tofu. Add a couple spoonfuls of salsa. Mix it all over low heat for a minute. Eat it on a plate. Wrap it in a burrito with soy sour cream, fresh guacamole, fresh squeezed lime, and fresh cilantro. Dang, I'm getting hungry....

Stir fries helped me ease into tofu, that's the route I'd suggest to someone else trying to ease into using tofu in meals.
